Diabetes Education
The Mercy Diabetes Education Team is pleased to offer Diabetes Self-Management Education opportunities.
This series is appropriate for patients with diabetes who:
- Are newly diagnosed
- Who have had no previous education or need a review of the basics
- Who are experiencing control problems
The series is not be appropriate for patients who:
- Are gestationally diabetic or are adolescents
- Have specialized Medical Nutrition Therapy
- Are being followed on an Insulin Intensification Protocol
Class schedule:
Classes are on
Wednesday evenings from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Classes are offered monthly, except in July and December.

Class content:
Class topics consist of diabetes overview, basic glucose control factors,
short/long term complications, hyper/hypoglycemia, pattern management of blood glucose,
nutrition (including food laboratory!), exercise, pharmacology, stress management,
sick day management, travel, and MUCH, MUCH MORE.
To be enrolled in the series, patients MUST first be assessed by the

Other Information:
- Participants must be physician referred.
- There is a charge for diabetes education;
we suggest that patients contact their insurance
companies for pre-certification.
- Medicare patients must meet certain criteria
to qualify for reimbursement and be pre-certified by their physician.
