Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas Receives $250,000 Gift from Microsoft

Microsoft's Gift is the Third Match in the Lee and Linda Scott Challenge

Rogers, AR (October 11, 2007) - Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas is excited to announce that it has received a $250,000 gift from Microsoft toward its capital campaign to help transform healthcare.

Microsoft's gift is part of the Lee and Linda Scott Challenge. When the Scotts pledged $1 million toward Mercy's $40 Million Capital Campaign in 2004, they challenged Mercy to raise an additional $1 million. After four donors accept their challenge with a gift of at least $250,000, Lee and Linda Scott will match these four pledges with an additional $250,000.

Microsoft's gift to Mercy's capital campaign represents the third gift taking part in the Lee and Linda Scott Challenge, joining Cisco Systems and Philips Electronics.

"Microsoft has led us into the home stretch of meeting the challenge set by Lee and Linda Scott," said Susan Barrett, President of Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas. "We are extremely grateful to Microsoft for helping us transform the way we provide healthcare."

The new Mercy medical campus represents an extraordinary effort to transform the way healthcare institutions function. On one hand, it involves core issues such as patient safety and workplace simplification as well as the application of information technology to fundamental processes such as medication management and supply chain management; on the other, it entails replacing a 50-year old building with a new facility that will enable Mercy to continue its mission.

"Microsoft believes information technology will play a critical role in transforming healthcare and we support Mercy Health System's mission to improve medical care in Arkansas through advanced information systems that address patient safety, medical information management, and other healthcare challenges," said Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer. "We are also honored to participate in the Lee and Linda Scott Challenge through this donation and we applaud their commitment to Mercy Health System and the community."

With Microsoft's gift, the capital campaign has just under $9 million to raise in order to reach its goal of $40 million.
